Management

ReefWatch Marine Conservation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Karnataka Forest Department to provide veterinary assistance and conduct post-mortems on stranded marine megafauna to determine the cause of death. When a stranding is reported, it is first brought to the attention of the nearest range forest office, followed by the immediate deployment of our team to the site. Our in-house veterinarian performs post-mortems on deceased animals in the presence of a Forest Department official. Live or injured marine megafauna are transported to the treatment centre in Kundapura according to established protocols.

ReefWatch Marine Conservation submits each stranding report to the respective range forest department offices.

Training Workshops

The ReefWatch team in Karnataka conduct training workshops for the Karnataka Forest Department to help enhance the knowledge of the frontline forest staff in patrolling the beaches in their respective ranges. These patrols can not only help in enhancing stranding reports but also in implementing laws associated with the protection of marine wildlife.
